No Indian films will be screened in Pakistan, Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Information and Broadcasting announces.
Islamabad: Following the dissolution of Article 370, Pakistan banned the screening of Indian films in the country. The government announced the news on Thursday.
"No Indian movies would be screened in Pakistani cinemas," Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said, who Special Assistant to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Information and Broadcasting.
Firdous claimed that the decision was in retaliation to India's nullification of Article 370 of the constitution, which gave special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir and allowed it to have a separate constitution, a state flag and autonomy over the internal administration.
Speaking to the local media outside Parliament House, Awan claimed that her government was making various efforts to highlight the current Kashmir situation internationally. These include consultations at the United Nations by Pakistan's Representative Maleeha Lodhi, and contacting heads of governments of other countries, besides diplomatic engagements.
Apart from films, all kinds of Indian cultural content in Pakistan has also been banned by the government.
However, this is not the first time that Pakistan has banned Indian films. The neighbouring country has stalled the release of various films in the past on grounds of censorship. Moreover, Pak has objected the release of Indian films, especially Bollywood everytime the political atmosphere between the two nations becomes tense.
