Berlin, Germany: Home appliance manufacturer BSH is revealing its latest tech innovations at the IFA trade show in Berlin. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only a few thousand people can attend the show instead of the normal 200,000-strong crowd. A maximum of 750 visitors are allowed in the same hall at any one time.
But BSH Board of Management member Matthias Ginthum says the coronavirus has actually focused consumers' minds on the home - something that is good business for its brands such as Bosch and Siemens.
"Recent months have emphasized the central role that the home and especially the kitchen play in our all everyday lives," he says. "Society has faced restrictions and has set new priorities with people focusing on their homes, life in the kitchen became more important."
BSH is using the trade fair to unveil its latest dishwashers.
- For the Bosch brand, the new PerfectDry appliances can all networked and include a third loading level, so users can fit in an extra 25 percent of their dirty dishes.
- Bosch has also introduced what it calls an "extra clean zone".
- The Bosch spokesperson calls the feature "a real innovation for stubborn dirt".
- "Three rotating nozzles allow three times more water to reach the dishes that need extra thorough soaking and cleaning".
- Another brand in the BSH stable, Siemens, is also showing off its latest dishwasher.
- Smart tech is a key part of the offering.
- Siemens says customers will be able to use program updates so their appliances adapt to their changing needs.
"Another useful innovation that makes everyday life easier is the new 'speed on-demand' function. Picture it, your visitors arrive earlier than planned and your crockery is still dirty. Not the problem. Simply use the Home Connect app on your smartphones to easily select 'speed on-demand' and speed up the washing cycle up to three times, even if the machine is already running, no matter where you are," explains the Siemens spokesperson.
BSH is also keen to promote its green credentials. Ginthum says it will be the first company in the industry to reduce it reduce its carbon dioxide emissions.
"We at BSH want to be the first company in our industry to neutralize the direct carbon dioxide emissions of all our locations worldwide. This means the manufacturing of products at BSH locations will be carbon neutral as of the end of 2020," he says.
IFA electronics trade show is set to continue till Saturday, September 5. In total, 80 companies are exhibiting at the event. Organizers are confident a range of new measures and limited visitor numbers will keep attendees safe.
