World's youngest Prime Minister Sanna Marin files for divorce

Hyderabad: Finland’s outgoing Prime Minister Sanna Marin who is now 37, has filed for divorce jointly with her husband of three years, Markus Raikkonen, according to news reports. Four years ago, she was the youngest prime minister in the world when she was took oath of office in the Nordic country. “We are grateful for the 19 years together and our beloved daughter. We will remain best friends,” Marin and Raikkonen wrote in separate Instagram stories, The Guardian reported.

According to the report, Marin and Raikkonen, who until recently worked at a venture capital firm, have a five-year-old daughter. They married in 2020 while Marin was in office dealing with the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. “We have lived our youth together, entered adulthood together and grown into parents for our dear daughter together,” the report said quoting Marin as having written on Instagram after her August 2020 wedding to Raikkonen.

"Yesterday we said I do to each other. Happy and grateful to share my life with the one I love. We have seen and experienced a lot together, shared joys and sorrows, and supported each other in ups and downs," she wrote a day after her wedding sharing a candid moment from the life event.

"I thought anything was possible because my mom told me I could be anything That’s why I tell my daughter everyday she got it and she got it. Support the girls, because girls change the world," she wrote in Instagram sharing a picture of her daughter.

Marin and her Social Democratic party lost Finland’s election for parliament last month, trailing behind the rightwing National Coalition party and the nationalist Finns party. Marin is considered by fans around the globe to be a millennial role model for progressive new leaders, even as voters at home opted for a new government, the report stated.
