Orban said on Sunday that his government is focussing on the families with multiple children. He encouraged women to have more children and to reverse Hungary's population decline at his "state of the nation" speech.
Hungarian PM has considered a lifetime income tax exemption for women who give birth to at least four children. According to him, such policies are "Hungary's answer" to downward demographic trends and "not immigration."
The Hungarian demographics have fallen by 400 thousand between the years 2001 and 2017. The fall was 200 thousand between 2001 and 2011. Considering the rate of fall of population, Hungary's population by 2070 could be a mere 6 million, warns the Hungarian Central Statistical Office in its Demographics Survey of 2018.
Orban repeated his assertion that the EU leaders want to fill Europe with migrants from other continents, which he does not want to happen with Hungary.
There are two chief reasons for this population decline. One is of course the natuaral cause. The other is migration of Hungarians for jobs abroad. Nearly 8% Hungarian Graduates are working and living abroad. But there is some hope for the nation as the fertility rate has recently risen from 1.23% to 1.5%, reports Hungary Today quoting Gergely Gulyas, a Hungarian minister.
A fierce anti-immigration leader, who often faces criticisms for his hard stands, Orban said that unchecked immigration would create "mixed populations" in European countries and a day would come when Muslims would dominate and Christians quickly would become a minority.
