Nepal receives Covid aid from UAE and Tibet Autonomous Region

A special flight, carrying health equipment and supplies provided by the Government of the United Arab Emirates to support the Government of Nepal in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, arrived in Kathmandu today, said Nepal's Foreign Affairs Ministry.

New Delhi: A special flight, carrying health equipment and supplies provided by the Government of the United Arab Emirates to support the Government of Nepal in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, arrived in Kathmandu today, said Nepal's Foreign Affairs Ministry.

The shipment consisting of ventilators, trolleys, masks, coverall gowns and goggles was handed over to the representative of the Ministry of Health and Population of Nepal by the Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, Kathmandu.

The support received today is in response to the request of the Government of Nepal, it added.

Taking to Twitter, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nepal said, "Nepal received 150 ventilators, 150 trolleys, 318600 masks, 9000 coverall, 15000 gown and 20000 goggles from UAE. We appreciate and thank the Government and people of the UAE for this generous support".

The Government of Nepal expressed its gratitude to the Government of the United Arab Emirates for the generous support that complements their efforts for treatment, prevention and control of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, the Government of Tibet Autonomous Region of China has sent 2 lakh doses of vaccine to Nepal along with other medical aid.

"We appreciate and thank the Government of Tibet Autonomous Region of China for grant assistance of 200,000 COVID-19 vaccines along with syringes, four batches of which were duly received at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) yesterday and today", said MoFA Nepal in a tweet.

Earlier, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Hou Yanqi confirmed that China's Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) provided Nepal with 30,000 litres of liquid oxygen, 800 oxygen cylinders, 10 oxygen concentrators, 5 ventilators, 200 ICU beds and 15,000 antigen kits.

The Himalayan nation has been grappling with the upsurge of Covid cases, a scene similar to that of India. Nepal has been reaching out to the international community for help as it continues to fight against the deadly wave of the pandemic.
