Trump wants Russia to join G7

After the annexation of Crimean Peninsula in March 2014, former President Barack Obama urged the leaders to remove Russia out of the group which was earlier known as the G8.

Washington: President Donald Trump on Tuesday expressed his opinion that Russia should join the world's major industrial nations group again.

Trump is scheduled to fly to France on Saturday for this year's G-7 meeting.

After the annexation of Crimean Peninsula in March 2014, former president Barack Obama urged the leaders to remove Russia out of the group which was earlier known as the G8.

He also claimed that Russian President Vladimir Putin outsmarted Obama for which he called for Russia's expulsion from the group.

Although President Trump came up with the idea of reinstating Russia before while attending the 2018 summit. But nothing happened at that moment.

He also had a discussion regarding US talks with the Taliban and the Afghan government about closing the chapter war which is 19 years old. Trump said, "The parties are having good talks and we'll see what happens."

He also said that the US is pulling out all the troops from Afghanistan but also mentioned that Washington has to have a presence.

Asked if the Taliban can be trusted in the negotiations, Trump said, "Nobody can be trusted," and added that Afghanistan appears to be the 'Harvard University of terrorism'.
