Washington: Jeffrey Epstein suicide investigation has called forth a lot of unanswered questions and also a string of tweets among which one was backed by the US President Donald Trump.

Trump defended his re-tweet over the weekend of an accusation by a conservative pundit suggesting Bill and Hillary Clinton were involved in the death of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Speaking to the reporters he said that it was just a retweet and was from somebody who is very respected adding that it was fine.

Trump's conspirational tweet has prompted major criticism.

One of the Conservative commentators Terrence K. Williams on Tuesday said, "He has 'no idea' if the Clintons played any role in Epstein's death."

American journalist Julia Pace on Tuesday emphasised on the fact that Trump has a long history of spreading falsehoods drawn from the conservative fringe.

Pace said, "This is, of course, the man who was the driver behind the lie that Barack Obama was not a US citizen was not born in the United States."

"Trump has always gotten energized and kind of excited by some of these conspiracies," she added.

US President even fueled the conspiracy story by doubling the question.

"Epstein had an island and it was not a good place, as I understand it. I was never there. So you have to ask: Did Bill Clinton go to the island? That's the question. If you find that out, you're going to know a lot," he added.

Pace said that Trump will often 'raise a question' when he brings up conspiracy theories. "He will say you know I don't know if this is true or not. But it's something that people are talking about," Pace said.

"This gives him 'a little bit of deniability'," she added.
