New Jersey: US President Donald Trump attacked his rival Joe Biden and China on Saturday at a briefing at his country resort in Bedminster, New Jersey.
Speaking to reporters at hastily arranged news conference Trump said China will "own the United States" should Joe Biden win the upcoming presidential election.
"They would love to have that happen, but I don't think that's going to happen," Trump said.
He suggested the focus of his administration was turning to "shielding the highest risk individuals living in nursing homes and long term care facilities" in the fight to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
Trump also criticised sports franchises that have cancelled their seasons, as virus cases surge across the United States.
The Big Ten and Pac-12, two historic and powerful conferences, succumbed to the pandemic and cancelled their fall football seasons last week.
Both conferences cited the risk of trying to keep players from contracting and spreading the coronavirus when the programs are not operating in a bubble-like the NBA and NHL are doing.
They also cited the broader state of the coronavirus crisis in the United States, which has had more than 5 million cases of COVID-19.
"I wish they would come back. And, you know, I just want to say it's sort of sad because I've been fighting for football to come back," the president said.
