Chicago restaurateur helps feed the hungry

Many of the meals from ROOH go to children, seniors and out-of-work families in Chicago's hard-hit Englewood neighbourhood. Mallick has personally delivered thousands of meals since the coronavirus hit. The Senate plans to consider various ways to provide help to those in need in the last half of July.

Chicago restaurateur helps feed the hungry

Chicago: When Manish Mallick opened his Chicago restaurant last year, he was focused on building his business and getting rave reviews about the eatery's 'progressive Indian cuisine' from the city's top critics.

Now some of his biggest fans are on the city's South Side, where he regularly delivers hundreds of meals to that hardest-hit by the pandemic.

As hunger in America grows, his restaurant, ROOH, is one of about 2,400 being funded by the non-profit World Central Kitchen to do this work. The organization is also pushing for federal emergency dollars to take this model to every state. The Senate plans to consider various ways to provide help to those in need in the last half of July.

World Central Kitchen pays the restaurants USD 10 per meal. They then cook and package them and distribute to community organizations for delivery.
