Fraijanes: At least seven prisoners were shot dead and more than 10 sustained bullet injuries during a riot in a Guatemala prison on Tuesday.
The National Civil Police said the seven dead were prisoners at the Pavon Rehabilitation Model Farm in the municipality of Fraijanes, about 17 kilometers east of Guatemala City.
According to sources, the riot began at around 7 am, but by afternoon authorities had regained control.
Around 1,500 police and soldiers pressed into service to take control of the situation.

The country’s prison service said that the facility had space for 900 prisoners but was accommodating more than 4,000.
