A fire broke out killed 8 infants in an Algerian maternity clinic on Tuesday.

Algeria: Eight newborns were killed on Tuesday as fire ripped through the maternity wing of an Algerian hospital near the border with Tunisia.

This incident occurred in the town of El Oued, 600 kilometres southeast of the capital, Algiers.

Eight infants were killed after a fire broke out in a maternity clinic in Tunisia on Tuesday.

According to the report of the national emergency service, 11 newborns, 37 mothers and 28 employees were evacuated after the blaze broke out at 4 a.m.

Three babies died of burns and five of asphyxiation, it added.

The country's health minister assured an investigation to look into whether the blaze was caused by a defective anti-mosquito device.
