Kismayo: At least 10 people were killed on Friday including two journalists in an attack on a hotel in southern Somalia.
According to local police, several gunmen stormed the Asasey hotel after detonating a car bomb at the hotel's entrance.
The terror group Al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack.
A renowned 43-year-old Somali-Canadian journalist Hodan Nalayeh and her husband Farid was killed in the attack.
The National Union of Somali Journalists claimed that one more journalist Mohammed Sahal was also killed in the attack.
The dead included a candidate for the regional presidency and tribal leaders also.
A meeting of tribal leaders and local officials was taking place inside the hotel for upcoming elections in August.
Kismayo, the southern Somalia city, was recaptured from Al-Shabaab in 2012, leading to the return of at least 1,000 families to the region.
