Hyderabad: The Kerala Story continues its steady run in theaters after a week of its release on over 2000 screens in India. The film helmed by Sudipto Sen scored double-digit numbers on the seventh day bringing the overall box office collection to Rs 80 crore, approximately.

The Kerala Story headlined by Adah Sharma made Rs 12 crore on the seventh day, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. If the momentum continues to grow, the controversial film is said to be raking in Rs 100 crore mark in its second weekend. The Kerala Story is enjoying a solo run at the box office as no big releases are scheduled to arrive in theaters until Prabhas and Kriti Sanon's highly anticipated mythological drama Adipursuh hits screens on June 16.

The Kerala Story is perceived to be along the lines of Vivek Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files as both films courted controversy upon their release. Sudipto's film opened with better numbers (Rs 8 crore) compared to The Kashmir Files (Rs 3.55 crore). Despite good start, The Kerala Story did not manage to zoom past The Kashmi Files' first week collection. The film, however, has become the fifth-highest Hindi grosser of the year.

While the Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana governments made The Kerala Story tax-free, it was removed from all screens in West Bengal after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had directed the state chief secretary to ensure the film is banned in the state. The film remained in headlines as its trailer claimed that 32,000 girls from Kerala went missing and joined the terrorist group, ISIS. The numbers, however, were changed to three women.
