Hyderabad: Though the controversial film is gathering traction at the box office, however it is trailing behind The Kashmir Files. The Kerala Story's box office performance has taken everyone by surprise. The controversial film is performing better than many star-driven movies released in 2023 thus far.

The Kerala Story, directed by Sudipto Sen, has nearly equaled its first Saturday performance on the fifth day of its release (a working Tuesday), hitting the Rs 50 crore milestone in less than a week. The Kerala Story garnered Rs 11 crore on Tuesday (early estimates), bringing its total collection to Rs 56.72 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. It had a total occupancy of 29.67% in the country's Hindi-speaking belt.

The film's earnings on the fifth day of the release are actually a little better than on the fourth. The Kerala Story, featuring Adah Sharma, began its theatrical run with Rs 8.03 crore, followed by Rs 11.22 crore on Saturday, Rs 16.40 crore on Sunday, and a double-digit collection on its first Monday with Rs 10.07 crore. Though The Kerala Story is catching on at the box office as a result of the controversy surrounding it, it is still lagging behind the highly contentious 2022 film The Kashmir Files as on its debut Tuesday, the Vivek Agnihotri picture grossed Rs 18 crore.

People are flocking to see The Kerala Story, despite the fact that it has been accused of misrepresenting facts. The Kerala Story is based on allegations that ISIS radicalised Kerala women. The Uttar Pradesh government proclaimed the film 'tax-free' on Tuesday, a day after the West Bengal government banned it.

Within five days, The Kerala Story had surpassed the Rs 50 crore mark. In comparison, Ajay Devgn's Bholaa hit the mark in 7 days. The lifetime collection of Akshay Kumar's Selfiee (Rs 16.85 crore) and Kartik Aaryan's Shehzada (Rs 32.20 crore) combined is nowhere near The Kerala Story's five-day total.
