Veteran actor Kamal Haasan, who is currently filming for his forthcoming Tamil film Indian 2, expressed his support for the wrestlers' protest against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) head Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Twitter. He exhorted Indians to help those who were in need.

Singer Chinmayi Sripaada questioned Kamal Haasan, quoting from his tweet, about his silence on her banishment from the music profession after she "named her molester." The singer said that Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu had sexually harassed her on business visits and threatened to terminate her career if she didn't comply during the Me Too movement in India.

At Delhi's Jantar Mantar, wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, and others have been protesting against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of harassing female athletes sexually. In his note, the South celebrity stated: "Today commemorates 1 month of demonstrations by wrestlers. We have made them fight for their own safety rather than for the honour of their country. My fellow Indians, who deserves more of our attention: a politician with a long criminal history or our national athletic heroes? I stand with my champions. Wrestler's protest’ (sic).”

"A Tamil Nadu singer was banned for 5 years for calling out an abuser in front of their eyes, and they didn't say a word about it since they respected the poettu. How can one believe in politicians who advocate for women's safety while ignoring harassment that is happening right in front of them? Just. Asking. I'm going to leave now as my timeline will get flooded with rants and abuses. (sic)." Chinmayi tweeted in reaction to Kamal Haasan's post.

After sharing a thread on Twitter about the sexual assault she endured over the years, Chinmayi was one of the first women in the film business to tell about her Me Too experience in 2018. When she and the lyricist Vairamuthu were in Switzerland for the Veezhamattom concert in 2005, she accused him of harassing her in a sexual manner. After Vairamuthu issued a statement disputing the claims, Chinmayi responded by branding him a liar.

Chinmayi was banned from the South Indian Cine, Television Artists and Dubbing Artists Union as a result of her claims against Vairamuthu. Her prohibition has not yet been lifted.
