Hyderabad: Malayalam superstar Mammootty's mother, Fathima Ismail, died at the age of 93 in the early hours of Friday. She was admitted to a private hospital where she later passed away from age-related complications. She is survived by the actor and his five siblings. Fathima was known for her lady-next-door image and was popular in her village, Chembu, near Kochi.
According to reports, the last rites would be held in the evening at Chembu Muslim Jamath Mosque. Following her demise, several celebrities from the Malayalam film industry as well as fans took to their social media handles to express their heartfelt condolences and support for the family.
Taking to Twitter, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor wrote, "Spoke to @mammukka this morning to express my sincere condolences on the passing of his mother. As I have grown older I have become much closer to my own mother, & I am aware of the preciousness of this irreplaceable bond. May he find the peace of mind to cope w/his loss."

Meanwhile, on the work front, Mammootty will be seen in the upcoming film Bazooka, which was written and directed by Deeno Dennis. The film is produced by the Theatre of Dreams & Saregama. The actor recently shared the title look poster of the film on his Twitter handle with a caption that read, "Presenting the Title Look Poster of Bazooka Written and Directed by Deeno Dennis, Produced by Theatre of Dreams & Saregama".
Mammootty's face isn't on the poster, but it does give an indication as to what the story of the movie will be. Mammootty, clad in a black suit, stands with his back to the audience while being surrounded by men with guns pointed at him.
