West Bengal people are fed-up with TMC government: Mukul Roy

Mukul Roy in conversation with ETV Bharat

Mukul Roy in conversation with ETV Bharat said that people of West Bengal are unhappy with the government of Trinamool Congress and its work.

"The manner in which Mamata is running the government, people are fed up with her. They want to be relieved from the Mamata's government," said Roy.

Mukul Roy also mocked the chief minister over her claims that she wanted to resign following her party's less than expected show in the general elections, saying it is a "drama".

"She will stick to her chair at all costs till people decide to remove her," he said, claiming that in the assembly polls, which are due in 2021, her party will struggle to emerge to get the status of the opposition party.

The TMC had won 211 of the assembly's 294 seats in 2016. The BJP had won only three seats but has since emerged as the principal challenger to her.

A party needs to win at least 10 per cent of seats to be officially recognised as the main opposition party.

"People are fleeing the TMC to join the BJP. Many more will join in the coming weeks," Roy said.

Mukul Roy also rejected the TMC's claim that the BJP was practising horse-trading by luring its leaders.

With over 50 councillors joining the BJP, the party has got a majority in at least three municipal councils.

West Bengal: TMC MLAs Subhranshu Roy, Tusharkanti Bhattacharjee and CPM MLA Devendra Roy joined BJP today in Delhi.

Along with them, 50-60 Councillors also joined BJP today.

Sixteen TMC Councillors of the Kanchrapara Municipality collectively withdrew from AITC Councillor' Party.

Earlier in the day Mukul Roy, once a confidant of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, said that the people of West Bengal have made their minds to support the BJP.

Roy's son Subhrangshu, the MLA from Bijpur constituency, was suspended from the TMC for six years for anti-party activities.

Before the announcement, Kailash Vijayvargiya, BJP National General Secretary had said that "such joinings will continue in future as well".

The development comes days after BJP broke into the TMC citadel winning 18 seats, 16 seats more than it bagged in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

TMC bagged 22 out of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Congress managed to win just two seats, while the Left parties drew a blank.
