Guwahati (Assam): Niharika Das (24) who hails from Nagao's Raha is being hailed by netizens for her indomitable will and courage. The woman on June 2 had to carry, Thuleshwar Das (75), her father-in-law on her shoulders to the nearest community health centre as he started showing Covid symptoms. As Niharika's husband was out on work in Siliguri, she was taking care of her father-in-law. As the road leading up to her residence was not in a motorable condition, she had to carry her father-in-law, as the auto she had arranged couldn't arrive at their doorstep. An image of Niharika carrying her father-in-law went viral on social media.

Niharika then took Thuleshwar Das to the nearest community care centre, wherein the latter tested Covid positive and had to be referred to a Covid hospital which was 21 km away in Nagaon. Meanwhile, Das' condition turned serious and he was too weak to even stand on his own. Again, as there was no stretcher or means to carry her ailing father-in-law to the vehicle parked at a distance, the mother of a 6-yr old lifted the 75-yr old onto her shoulders. She said people kept on staring at her, but none came forward to offer help.

On having taken Das to the Covid hospital, the authorities told Niharika that they were not in a position to treat him and referred him to the Nagaon Civil Hospital, wherein the lady had to again carry her father-in-law up a three-flight staircase. It was during this time that an image clicked by someone became viral on social media. Netizens are hailing Niharika for her gesture towards her father-in-law, with some even calling her a model daughter-in-law. Later, even Niharika had tested positive for Covid19.
