New Delhi: Police have arrested a man in Amritsar in Punjab wanted for his role in the violence at the Red Fort in Delhi on Republic Day.
Gurjot Singh carried a Rs 1 lakh bounty and he is accused of vandalism and for hoisting a Sikh flag also known as Nishan Sahib at the Red Fort. Singh had been on the run for nearly five months since the violence erupted at the tractor rally staged by farmers protesting against the new agriculture laws.
"One person namely Gurjot Singh, who was named in FIR number 96/21 ( Red Fort case) with a reward of Rs 1 lakh announced for his arrest, has been arrested by a team of Northern Region (NR) of special cell from Amritsar, Punjab," said police.

According to DCP Sanjeev Yadav, several teams of the Delhi Police were on a manhunt to nab the rioters who were absconding after the Red Fort violence on January 26. During this time, the Northern Range of the Special Cell was informed about Singh's plan to meet some of his associates. Based on a tip-off, a team of Special Cell arrested him from Punjab's Amritsar. The police team has now brought the suspect to Delhi for questioning.
About 43 different cases were registered with the crime branch, special cell, and local police, and over 150 persons were apprehended in connection with the Republic Day violence. On 26th January, protestors breached the prearranged route for the rally. In the violence, that ensued they clashed with police and vandalised property in several parts of NCR.
