New Delhi: Scientists and experts at the 14th Agricultural Science Congress vouched for driving innovation to improve the present scenario in agriculture and farming sector across the country.
Speaking during the valedictory session of the four-day event, organised at New Delhi's NASC complex, the participants opined that innovation was the key factor, combined with research elements, which would usher in a transformation in the aforesaid sectors.
Since innovation was in the theme of the event, most of the scientists and the experts were of the opinion that research is the only key to innovation if we want to transform the present scenario of agriculture and farming sector in India.
GoI's Principal Scientific Advisor K. VijayRaghavan, who presided over as the Chief Guest of the event, reiterated on this year's theme - 'Innovation for Agricultural Transformation' and called upon the scientists' body and research institutions to relay advisories to ensure that the government focuses on implementing the policies which reaches the intended beneficiaries directly.
Chairman of the valedictory session and the President of National Academy of Agriculture Science Dr. Punjab Singh, in his address, reiterated the recommendations made by most of the scientists that to transform agriculture sector in India and remarked that the government needs to invest more into the aspects agricultural research.
In an exclusive with ETV Bharat, Singh spoke on the need for diverting more investment into agricultural research and also on the current situation of agriculture and farmers in India.
