New Delhi: The Government of India's intervention to enhance the availability and affordability of 'Remdesivir' injection has led the manufacturers/marketers of 'Remdesivir injection' to voluntarily offer a reduction in the maximum retail price (MRP).
In this regard, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has asked manufacturers of Covid drug 'Remdesivir' to ensure that the revised MRP through a voluntary reduction of prices would be implemented.
"Due to Government’s intervention, the price of Remdesivir Injection is now reduced! I am thankful to pharmaceutical companies for joining hands with the Government to fight against CoVID Pandemic," Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted.
Earlier, on April 14 (Wednesday) Dr Harsh Vardhan, the Union Health Minister had called for stringent action against those hoarding the anti-viral drug 'Remdesivir' which is in high demand following a rampant surge in Covid cases throughout the nation.
"Shortage of Remdesivir happened because its production was reduced as COVID19 cases were decreasing. Our drug controller and ministry held a meeting with stakeholders and asked manufacturers to strengthen the production. In case of any complaint of black marketing or hoardings of doses, stringent action will be taken by the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI). Stringent action should be taken against those who are exploiting people by inflating the price of Remdesivir," Dr Harsh Vardhan said.
