The Delhi Police have registered an FIR on Rahul Gandhi's 'tractor march' to Parliament citing it as a major security breach. Following the incident, Balaji Srivastava, who was the Delhi Police Commissioner has been removed from his post with Rakesh Asthana replacing him. Speculations are that Srivastava was removed from his post over the major security lapse.

New Delhi: The Delhi Police on Tuesday filed an FIR over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's tractor rally to the Parliament, citing the move as a major security lapse. It is in this context that Rakesh Asthana has been appointed as the Delhi Police Commissioner, succeeding Balaji Srivastava, sources say. Police had launched a probe into the tractor march which was held on Monday, saying that tractors were not allowed entry into the premises and were trying to ascertain as to how the tractor was brought into Central Delhi despite security having been beefed up at the Parliament.

The Gandhi scion having driven a tractor to the Parliament said that he wanted to lend a voice to the poor farmers who were protesting against the farm laws. The Congress has been raising the issue in Parliament during its ongoing Monsoon Session. Other Opposition MPs also moved an Adjournment motion in both the Houses demanding a discussion over the matter. In connection with the case, some politicians were also detained and the tractor sans number plate was seized.

In the preliminary investigation, police revealed that the tractor might've been brought to New Delhi secretly via a container and that the vehicle was placed at some distance from the Parliament House, and a huge board was affixed in the front in a bid to conceal it. With the help of the tractor's engine and chassis number, the police team identified the owner of the tractor as Ajay, a resident of Sonipat. While the container in which the tractor was ferried also belongs to a Sonipat resident, identified as Surendra. It is learnt that police will interrogate both of them soon.
