The automobile sector released retail sale numbers for the month of October. The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) has reported a 4.5 per cent increase in total sales at 1,53,435 units in October.

New Delhi: The automobile sector released retail sale numbers for the month of October after continuous efforts of boosting sales by offering huge discounts and price cuts. Let us have a look at the sales of major companies.

Bajaj Auto sales down 9 per cent

Bajaj Auto Ltd on Friday reported a 9 per cent decline in total sales at 4,63,208 units in October. The company had sold a total of 5,06,699 units in the same month last year, Bajaj Auto said in a regulatory filing.

Highlights

  • Domestic sales stood at 2,78,776 units last month as against 3,19,942 units in October last year, a decline of 13 per cent
  • Motorcycle sales in the domestic market were down 14 per cent at 2,42,516 units compared to 2,81,582 units in the year-ago month
  • Commercial vehicle sales stood at 36,260 units as against 38,360 in the corresponding month last year, a decline of 5 per cent
  • Total vehicle exports in October were at 1,84,432 units as compared to 1,86,757 units in the same month a year ago, down 1 per cent

Escorts tractor sales up 1.6 per cent

Farm equipment and engineering major Escorts Ltd on Friday reported a 1.6 per cent increase in tractor sales at 13,353 units in October.

  • The company had sold a total of 13,140 units in the same month last year, Escorts Ltd said in a regulatory filing
  • Domestic tractor sales last month were at 13,034 units, compared to 12,867 in October 2018, a growth of 1.3 per cent
  • Exports stood at 319 units as compared to 273 in the same month last year, growth a 16.8 per cent

Maruti Suzuki sales up 4.5 per cent

The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Friday reported a 4.5 per cent increase in total sales at 1,53,435 units in October. Suzuki Motorcycle India also reported a 13.61 per cent increase in total two-wheeler sales at 74,610 units in October.

  • The company had sold 1,46,766 units in October last year
  • Domestic sales also grew 4.5 per cent to 1,44,277 units last month as against 1,38,100 units in October 2018
  • Sales of mini cars comprising Alto, WagonR and newly launched S-Presso stood at 28,537 units as compared to 32,835 units in the year-ago month, down 13.1 per cent
  • Sales of compact segment, including models such as Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire, grew 15.9 per cent to 75,094 units as against 64,789 units in October last year
  • Mid-sized sedan Ciaz sold 2,371 units as compared to 3,892 units in the same month last year, down 39.1 per cent
  • Sales of utility vehicles, including Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga, were at 23,108 units as compared to 20,764 units in the year-ago period
  • Exports in October were 5.7 per cent up at 9,158 units as against 8,666 units in the corresponding month last year

Ashok Leyland sales fall 35 per cent

Hinduja flagship firm Ashok Leyland on Friday reported a 35 per cent decline in total commercial vehicle sales at 9,857 units in October.

Highlights

  • The company had sold 15,149 units in the same month last year.
  • Domestic commercial vehicle sales were down 37 per cent at 9,074 units as against 14,341 units in the year-ago month.
  • Medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales in the domestic market dipped 50 per cent to 4,565 units as compared to 9,062 units in October last year.
  • Similarly, light commercial vehicle sales also declined 15 per cent at 4,509 units as against 5,279 units in the corresponding month last year.

Toyota Kirloskar sales drop 5 per cent

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Friday reported a 5 per cent decline in total sales at 12,610 units in October. The company had posted total sales of 13,245 units in the same month year ago, TKM said in a statement.

Highlights

  • Domestic sales were down 6 per cent at 11,866 units as compared to 12,606 units in the corresponding month last year, down 6 per cent
  • Exports during the month stood at 744 units as compared to 639 units, a growth of 16.43 per cent
  • The company has sold close to 14,000 units of Glanza since its launch in June

MG Motor India on Friday reported retail sales of 3,536 units of its SUV Hector in October.

The first model of the company, which was launched in June this year, has crossed bookings of 38,000 units, MG Motor India said in a statement.

The company had temporarily suspended bookings in July after receiving orders for around 21,000 units. It re-opened bookings on September 29 with plans, backed by its plans to ramp up production.

Mahindra total sales down 11 per cent

Auto major Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M) on Friday reported an 11 per cent decline in total sales at 51,896 units in October.

Highlights

  • The company had sold 58,416 units in the corresponding month last year, M&M said in a regulatory filing
  • In the domestic market, sales were down 11 per cent at 49,193 units last month as compared to 55,350 units in October 2018
  • Exports also registered a decline of 12 per cent at 2,703 units as against 3,066 units in the year-ago month
  • In the passenger vehicle segment, which includes utility vehicles, cars and vans, the company sold 18,460 units last month as compared to 24,066 units in the same month last year, down 23 per cent
  • In the commercial vehicle segment, the company sold 23,582 units as against 24,353 units in the same month a year ago, down 3 per cent
  • Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) on Friday reported a 4 per cent decline in total tractor sales at 47,376 units for October.
  • The company had sold 45,433 units in the same month last year, M&M said in a regulatory filing
  • Domestic tractor sales were at 46,312 units as compared to 44,646 units in October last year, down 4 per cent
  • Exports, last month, were at 1,064 units as compared to 787 units in the year-ago period, a decline of 26 per cent

TVS Motor sales down 19 per cent

TVS Motor Co on Friday reported an 18.83 per cent decline in total sales in October at 3,23,368 units.

Highlights

  • The company, which primarily makes two-wheelers and three-wheelers, had sold 3,98,427 units in the same month last year
  • Total two-wheeler sales during the month stood at 3,08,161 units as against 3,84,307 units in October 2018, down 19.81 per cent
  • Domestic two-wheeler sales stood at 2,52,684 units last month as compared to 3,38,988 units in October 2018, a decline of 25.45 per cent
  • Total exports increased 20 per cent to 69,339 units last month as compared with 57,926 units in October 2018

Honda Cars India sales dip 29 per cent

Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) on Friday reported a 29.44 per cent decline in domestic sales at 10,010 units in October as against 14,187 units in the same month last year. The company also exported 633 units last month.

Ashok Leyland sales fall 35 per cent

Hinduja flagship firm Ashok Leyland on Friday reported a 35 per cent decline in total commercial vehicle sales at 9,857 units in October.

  • Domestic commercial vehicle sales were down 37 per cent at 9,074 units as against 14,341 units in the year-ago month.
  • Medium and heavy commercial vehicle sales in the domestic market dipped 50 per cent to 4,565 units as compared to 9,062 units in October last year.
  • Similarly, light commercial vehicle sales also declined 15 per cent at 4,509 units as against 5,279 units in the corresponding month last year.

Toyota Kirloskar sales drop 5 per cent

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) on Friday reported a 5 per cent decline in total sales at 12,610 units in October. The company had posted total sales of 13,245 units in the same month year ago, TKM said in a statement.

  • In the domestic market, sales were down 11 per cent at 49,193 units last month as compared to 55,350 units in October 2018
  • Exports also registered a decline of 12 per cent at 2,703 units as against 3,066 units in the year-ago month
  • In the passenger vehicle segment, which includes utility vehicles, cars and vans, the company sold 18,460 units last month as compared to 24,066 units in the same month last year, down 23 per cent
  • In the commercial vehicle segment, the company sold 23,582 units as against 24,353 units in the same month a year ago, down 3 per cent

TVS Motor Co on Friday reported an 18.83 per cent decline in total sales in October at 3,23,368 units.

  • The company, which primarily makes two-wheelers and three-wheelers, had sold 3,98,427 units in the same month last year
  • Total two-wheeler sales during the month stood at 3,08,161 units as against 3,84,307 units in October 2018, down 19.81 per cent

     "With increased supplies from its global and local component suppliers, the company is starting second shift operations from November 2019," the statement added.

     Commenting on the sales performance, MG Motor India Director - Sales Rakesh Sidana said,"MG Hector continues to further strengthen its position in its segment and win hearts of our customers. As we gradually ramp up our production, we aim to ensure the highest levels of customer satisfaction through timely vehicle deliveries."
