Hyderabad: World's largest multi-stage, multi-purpose lift irrigation project Kaleshwaram was on Friday dedicated to the nation by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.
Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) was inaugurated in the presence of Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The inaugural ceremony was held at the project site in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district near the borders with Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh.

Major benefits of Kaleshwaram:
1. Agriculture: The project comprises 1,832 km water supply route, 1,531 km gravity canal, 203 km tunnel routes, 20 lifts, 19 pump houses and 19 reservoirs and 169 TMCs. All these components will help in the stabilisation of the existing and new lands to be irrigated and it will in turn benefit, farming community, helping in strengthening the rural economy. The project will also support crop cultivation on 45 lakh acres of land
2. Industries: 16 TMC water from the irrigation project will be reserved for industrial usage.
3. Tourism: Being the world's largest multi-stage lift irrigation project, Kaleshwaram will itself attract a huge number of tourists. Its huge infrastructure and functioning will grab the attention of everyone.
4. Drinking water: The project will also help in an adequate supply of drinking water and improve the quality of life of residents of Telangana.
5. Most importantly it will help in improving the economy as we have seen, how due to the water crisis, different parts of the country are loosing out on the economic front.
