GST Council meet underway; likely to cut tax on EVs

New Delhi: GST Council Meet headed by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is underway through video conferencing at Ministry of Finance. Minister of State (Finance) Anurag Thakur is also present.

The 36th GST Council meeting has only one item in the agenda, which is to consider the Centre's proposal to slash GST rates to 5 per cent from 12 per cent on e-vehicles.

The meeting is also likely to decide the valuation of goods and services in solar power generating systems and wind turbine projects for the purposes of levying GST.

The Council, which is chaired by Union Finance Minister and has state finance ministers as members, in its meeting last month, had referred the issue relating to Goods and Services Tax (GST) concessions on electric vehicle, electric chargers and hiring of electric vehicles, to an officers committee.
