New Delhi: A meeting was held on Friday between Prime Minister's Office and central and state government officials to discuss ways to improve compliance to boost collections under the Goods and Services Tax regime (GST).
According to sources, ways to set up an effective mechanism for invoice matching and improving the system to identify fake input tax credit claims under the GST were also discussed in the meeting.
Another aspect on which the officials talked about was with regards to daily monitoring of returns under GST and the improvement of coordination between the centre and the states on compliance issues.
The officials have also identified states where the filing of GST returns is low. A few state chief secretaries were also connected through video conferencing during the meeting.
The meeting conducted by the PMO comes at a time when GST collection in September fell to a 19-month low and revenue mop-up of most states has been declining under the indirect tax regime.
