The door-step banking facility launched this month by public sector banks allow customers to avail major banking transaction services like pick-up of cheques and delivery of statements or TDS advice, from the comfort of their homes.

Business Desk, ETV Bharat: In a game-changing move, public sector banks launched door-step banking (DSB) services this month in order to make banking more accessible and convenient for its customers.

Major banking transaction services can now be availed by customers at the comfort of their homes, which can really prove helpful in times of a pandemic when people are avoiding crowded places.

Which banks are offering door-step banking services to its customers?

All the PSU banks are offering these services -- State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, Bank of Maharashtra, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India, Allahabad Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Punjab and Sind Bank, State Bank of India, Union Bank of India and UCO Bank.

Who can avail these services?

Doorstep banking services are available to all individual customers except those having joint accounts operated jointly, minors’ accounts including under guardianship, accounts operated through power of attorney, non-KYC compliant accounts, inoperative accounts and NRI/foreign national account holder.

The customer of joint account having his/her mobile number linked to the account can avail the DSB facility provided the account operation mandate is ‘Either or Survivor’/’Any One or Survivor’.

How is it being implemented?

The services are being implemented by door-step banking (DSB) agents in 100 major centres across the country for offering different financial as well as non-financial services. Banks are planning to scale up the number of centres going ahead.

Which services can be availed through this facility?

a) Pick-up services (pick up from customer and deliver to branch): Cheques/instruments for collection/clearing, cheque book requisition slip, IT/Govt/GST challan with cheque, and standing instructions. Pick-up of Form 15G/15H is presently not available.

b) Delivery services (pick up from branch and deliver to customer): Statement of account, term deposit advice, TDS and Form 16 certificate issuance, pre-paid instrument/gift card, demand draft, and pay orders. Delivery of non-personalized cheque book is presently not available.

Importantly, services of cash pick-up (deposit) and delivery (cash withdrawal) shall be introduced soon, probably next month.

What are the charges?

Doorstep banking services are being provided to customers on chargeable basis. The cost per call/service for financial/non-financial services is Rs 75 plus GST. However, calls made to the call centre for enquiry purpose (where agent for service delivery is not required) would be free of cost.

What is the time taken for completing a service request?

All requests generated up to 3 pm on a working day need to be completed within 3 hours of request generation. Request generated after 3 pm should be completed by 1 pm on the next working day.

How can I identify a genuine DSB agent at the time of placing service request?

Credentials of agent along with a photo shall appear in the Mobile App/Web Portal of the customer. Customer will also get an SMS with name of the agent. Customer can demand ID Card from the agent that shows his name and photo.

Additionally, a one-time authentication code for each service will be sent to the customer which he needs to tell the agent for initiating the service. Agents shall follow uniform dress code bearing DSB and service provider logo for their ready identification.

Can multiple instruments be deposited for collection?

Yes. You can deposit multiple instruments at a time for collection using a single PAY-in-slip. However, before handing over any such instruments, please ensure that all the Instruments are crossed (A/C PAYEE), drawee bank/branch is different from your home branch. In case of transfer cheques (within the home branch), a separate PAY-in-SLIP has to be used.

How can I know that the DSB Agent has deposited the instruments with the bank?

Once the agent deposits the instruments with the designated bank branch, DSB System will validate the Service Code of the customer and trigger a message ‘COMPLETED’ which will be duly notified to the customer through the mobile app.

What are other important points customers should remember?

Banks say that customers should keep sufficient balance in the account before placing of doorstep banking service request. Customer shall not make any payment for the services to the agent.

Also, no other services/requests shall be entertained by bank/agent other than the service request registered through mobile app/web portal/call centre.

Customer should also not share any detail/information (e.g. account number, account details, ATM card/PIN details etc.) with the agent.
