Govt extends last date for PAN- Aadhaar linking: Know how to do it

Non-linking of PAN with Aadhaar before October 1, 2021 will attract a penalty up to Rs 1,000. ETV Bharat presents you two simple ways to link your PAN with Aadhaar. Read on.

New Delhi: In a major relief for taxpayers, the Union Government has extended the deadline to link PAN with Aadhaar by three months from June 30, 2021 to September 30, 2021. The government has taken this decision in view of the Covid-19 pandemic. Since non-linking of PAN with Aadhaar before the deadline will attract a penalty up to Rs 1,000, taxpayers are advised to complete the process at the earliest.

Here are the two simple ways to complete the process. Before you begin, keep your Aadhaar card and PAN handy.

1. Linking through SMS

To link PAN with Aadhaar through mobile phone, the taxpayer has to send a message to 567678 or 56161 in the below given format.

Message format –

UIDPAN <space> <12 digit Aadhaar> <space> <10 digit PAN>

After sending the SMS to one of the given numbers, the Aadhaar will be linked with PAN.

2. Linking through website

To link PAN with Aadhaar over website, visit the home page of the new income tax e-filing website https://www.incometax.gov.in/

Click on ‘Our Services’ tab and you will find the ‘Link Aadhaar’ tab. Click on it.

You will be redirected to a new page.

On this page, enter the required details – PAN, Aadhaar Number, Name as per Aadhaar and Mobile Number.

Please ensure that 'Aadhaar Number' and 'Name as per Aadhaar' are the same as printed on your Aadhaar card.

In case there is only a year of birth in your Aadhaar card, tick the appropriate box.

Also, tick the box which says – ‘I agree to validate my Aadhaar details’.

Once you fill the above details, click on ‘Link Aadhaar’ option at the bottom right of the page.

The Income Tax Department will validate name, date of birth, and gender as per PAN against your Aadhaar Details and complete the process.

How to check whether your PAN has already been linked with Aadhaar card or not

In case, if you want to check the status of your PAN-Aadhaar linkage, click on the below given link and fill in the details.

https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/pre-login/bl-link-aadhaar

If your PAN has already been linked with Aadhaar, you will see a message on the screen saying – ‘Your PAN is already linked to given Aadhaar’.
