Washington: President Donald Trump said on Friday that US and Chinese negotiators held two days of "candid and constructive" trade talks and discussions will continue.

Trump said he "may or may not" remove the tariffs imposed on Chinese goods, "depending on what happens with respect to future negotiations!" In an upbeat pair of tweets, Trump also said, "The relationship between President Xi (Jinping) and myself remains a very strong one."

Similarly, Chinese Vice-Premier and country's negotiating leader Liu He said on Saturday that negotiations to resolve the trade row between China and the US have not collapsed and will continue soon in Beijing.

Liu was in Washington for two days of negotiations to resolve escalating tensions that have resulted in a hike of US tariffs by President Donald Trump, Efe news reported.

Speaking to reporters before returning to Beijing, Liu said "negotiations have not broken down. Quite the opposite: I think they are normal". Small setbacks in bilateral negotiations were inevitable, he added.

Liu said China believed that tariffs were the main trigger to trade confrontations and to reach an agreement all tariffs should be eliminated.
