Barabanki: Police on Saturday arrested a Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA) office clerk allegedly involved in the midday meal scam that caused around 4.5 crore loss to the state exchequer.
"The Crime Branch was investigating corruption in the midday meal scheme. BSA office clerk Akhilesh was arrested and Rs 21 lakh has been recovered from his house as part of midday meal scam investigation by the crime branch," said Ajay Sahani, Superintendent of Police, Barabanki.
Police said that the accused used to transfer money meant for midday meal into the fake accounts of his accomplices.
"In the last five years at least Rs 4.5 crore appears to have been siphoned off," the officer said.
Further investigation is underway.
