Muzaffarnagar: The Uttar Pradesh police has attached the property of an accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots case after he failed to surrender before the court in spite of repeated arrest warrants being sent to him.
Ravinder Singh had allegedly stabbed a youth, Shahnawaz, to death at Kawal village in Muzaffarnagar on August 27, 2013.
The riots began over a minor altercation between Hindu and Muslim youths at Kawal village in Muzaffarnagar district. Singh was among the six accused in the case. The others who have been arrested include Prahlad, Bishan Singh, Tendu, Devender and Jitender.
The stabbing incident had led to widespread riots in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts of Uttar Pradesh, where more than 60 were killed, 93 injured and more than 40,000 displaced. The event is described as "the worst violence in Uttar Pradesh in recent history".
