Medha Patkar: Congress manifesto is a social document

Opposition leaders, along with many social activists, participated in the People's Agenda 2019 at the Talkatora Stadium in Delhi. Medha Patkar was also present in the gathering and expressed her views on the Congress manifesto.

New Delhi: Representatives of civil societies from across the country took part in People's Agenda 2019 at the Talkatora Stadium in Delhi.

Objections against the government's working and issues pertaining to workers, peasants, dalits, women, as well as mob lynching, were also discussed.

Many leaders of opposition parties also participated in this meeting and gave support to the people's concern and reviewed the Congress manifesto.

Medha Patkar, a well known social activist, was also present in the gathering.

In conversation with ETV Bharat, she said, "This time, the Congress manifesto has come up after having discussions with many organizations. So, it is a social document and we welcome it. We will write about the drawbacks and explain our role in the case for publicity."

"The matter of FDI hasn't been ignored but it will be brought under control. Issues of giving fair price, waivering of debts, employment has also been raised and we appreciate that. However, there is lack of clarity in the industrial policies and between payments of industries and workers," she said.

Comparing the Communist Party of India's manifesto with the Congress, she said that communist parties will get the votes only if they implement their manifesto in the places where they are in power.

She further said, "Every mass organisation has its own politics, which needs to be maintained."
