Home Min chairs meeting to review preparedness for cyclone Vayu

To review the preparedness of the central ministries and state to deal with cyclone 'Vayu', Home Minister Amit Shah conducted a high-level meeting in New Delhi on Tuesday. In a statement released by the home ministry, it is informed that cyclone 'Vayu' is expected to touch Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva around Veraval and Diu region early on June 13.

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting to review the preparedness of state and central ministries concerned to deal with the situation arising out of cyclone 'Vayu'.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that cyclone 'Vayu' is expected to touch Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Mahuva around Veraval and Diu region as a severe cyclonic storm with wind speed 110-120 kmph gusting to 135 kmph during the early morning of June 13, 2019.

In the review meet, Amit Shah directed the senior officers to take every possible measure to ensure that people were safely evacuated and also ensure maintenance of all essential services such as power, health, telecommunications, drinking water, and that these were restored immediately in the event of damages caused to them, stated a home ministry statement.
Shah also directed 24x7 functioning of the control rooms, it added."NDRF has pre-positioned 26 teams which are equipped with boats, tree-cutters, telecom equipment, etc. and moving another 10 teams as requested by Gujarat state government," said the home ministry.Indian Coast Guard, the Navy, Army and Air Force units have also been put on standby and surveillance aircraft and helicopters are carrying out aerial surveillance.Also read: Cadbury cuts down sugar content, now get kuch 'kam' meetha ho jaaye chocolates
