Davangere (Karnataka): Deprived of good road connectivity to her village, a young woman from Rampura on the Davangere-Chitradurga border in Karnataka has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai that she will stay a spinster until her village gets a good, motorable road.
Bindu, the woman, said several young women in her village, surrounded by hillocks and comprising only about 40 houses, are not able to find partners as prospective alliances keep turning down the proposals fearing their wards' future in the village.

"Though India is celebrating 75 years of Independence, our village still faces acute scarcity of basic resources. Our people have no education. We have limited access to other villages. There is no bus service here. We are compelled to walk at least seven kilometres to reach another village from where we are required to take a bus. Health infrastructure is poor," Bindu said, adding this compelled her to write to the new chief minister and the prime minister in a last-ditch effort.
In a relief, Bindu said, Chief Minister Bommai's secretary has replied to her e-mail stating the administration will look into the issue.
"All our pleas fell on deaf ears so far. We felt so neglected that we have had instances of election boycotts. For the first time, CM Bommai's secretary has responded to my e-mail. We see some hope now," she said.
It is, however, not clear whether her e-mail was responded to by Bommai's personal secretary or the Chief Minister's Office.
