New Delhi: Another day of the Monsoon Session witnessed stormy proceedings amid the continuous protests of Opposition parties regarding the Pegasus snooping row and farmers agitation. Opposition MPs of Rajya Sabha alleged that the Central Government is trying to prevail dictatorship in the country. While speaking to the media, Congress' Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said, "Today all parties together raised the issue of Pegasus and farmers protest but the government is not ready for discussion. We want Pegasus to be discussed in the Parliament and also a Supreme Court monitored probe into it."
Congress' Deputy LoP in Rajya Sabha Anand Sharma said, "The Modi Government has to accept our demand for a discussion and an SC-monitored probe into Pegasus snoop gate. We are doing our duty to prevent this Government from converting our democracy into a surveillance and police state." Meanwhile, TMC MP Sukhendu Shekhar Roy made it clear that the Opposition parties will not allow the house to run until the Central Government allows a discussion over the Pegasus project. He also alleged that the same BJP had stalled the house during the Winter Session over the matter of 2G Scam.
RJD MP Manoj Jha said, "The farmers have spent 8 months on road protesting against the farm laws but this Government is brazenly insensitive. There should be a dialogue, not a monologue. Also, there should be a Supreme Court monitored probe so that a message could go loud and clear that we are not comfortable in the company of Nation's like Uganda."
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the Congress party, accusing it of not allowing the monsoon session of Parliament to function, asking BJP MPs to "expose the party before the public and the media". When asked about PM's allegations, Anand Sharma said, "The Prime Minister needs to be reminded that it is his party colleagues and leaders who have said that this is the legitimate tool, available to the Government. Government is unmoving and it is not willing to listen to the Opposition."
Aam Aadmi Party RS MP, Sanjay Singh alleged, "From last 8 months, farmers are sitting on a dharna, and BJP has called them 'mavalis'. PM has no right to speak anything now."
