After unsuccessfully trying to adopt a child, Banerjee undertook artificial insemination following the advice of her family doctor.

In a video posted on the internet, she recounted that it was not very easy to become a single mother by breaking the customs. 37-year-old Banerjee gave birth to a son through artificial insemination. She separated from her husband in 2014 and got divorced in 2017.

After the divorce, she registered twice to adopt a child from the Central Adoption Authority only to fail. However, Banerjee became a mother on 24 August this year after undergoing Intracervical Insemination commonly known as ICI.

"My dream also came true. Earlier I thought of having a child through surrogacy. This technology is very expensive. Even after spending a lot of money in it, the success rate is very low," she said.

During the ICI, the identity of the donor is kept confidential.

What is Intracervical Insemination?

The placement of sperms in the female reproductive tract so as to cause pregnancy is known as insemination. In ICI, sperms are placed very close to the cervix of the mother with the help of a needleless syringe. The procedure is relatively simple and inexpensive.
