Visually impaired Umesh Labana of Sirmaur clears UPSC exam

Umesh Labana, a resident of Kolar village in the Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, recently cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination and secured 397th rank. Umesh Labana, who became an officer, has made Sirmaur district proud.

Nahan (Himachal Pradesh): Umesh Labana, a resident of Kolar village in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh, recently cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examination and secured 397th rank across the country. Umesh Labana, who became an officer, has made Sirmaur district proud. Umesh Labana, who reached his home after clearing the examination, shared the secret of his success while talking to the media on Sunday.

Umesh Labana said that this was his third attempt at UPSC. He has given this exam in English medium only. Due to being visually impaired, he has passed this examination only because of the facilities provided by the government. He did his studies on laptops and mobiles using Screen Reader software. Umesh Labana said that the initial steps of any long journey are difficult and the same thing happened to him too, but he got a lot of support from his family.

Umesh has also thanked his teacher Dinesh Sood, who is also visually impaired and guided him. Teacher Dinesh Sood showed him the technique to continue his education. Umesh Labana's father Daljit Singh and mother Kamlesh Kumari expressed happiness over their son's success. They said that they did as much effort as they could to fulfil their son's dream.

There is an influx of people to Umesh's house to congratulate him. Residents of Kolar village say that Umesh has passed this examination and there is an atmosphere of happiness in the whole village. Umesh's success has also given a message to the youth here to move forward.
