New Delhi: The father of the victim has moved to the Supreme Court opposing the bail sought by self-styled Godman and rapist Asaram Bapu, citing possible "revenge killing" of his daughter and the whole family. The petitioner contends that Asaram is a highly influential, politically connected person who has a force of blind followers who might kill them.
The father of the victim has informed the Apex Court that a killer named Kartik Haldar has been hired by Asaram Bapu who has attacked 10 eyewitnesses for confessing to police and three of them have died. As per the petitioner, Haldar had confessed to the police about the killings but the UP police have not initiated any action. The application has stated at least 8 incidents where the witnesses have been shot dead. "It is humbly submitted that in case the petitioner (Asaram Bapu) herein is admitted to interim bail, there is every likelihood that out of vengeance, the petitioner herein may get the applicant (father), his daughter, and family members killed," read the application filed by the victim's father. The father of the victim has also sought to become a party in the case relating to Asaram's bail.

The Rajasthan government had also opposed the bail in the court contending that the medical condition of the accused was stable and there was no requirement of special treatment. The state government had alleged that Asaram Bapu is trying to suspend his life sentence under the garb of his medical condition.
Asaram Bapu is accused of raping a minor. Since 2014, he has been seeking bail but the team of doctors assessing his condition always rule out the need for any special treatment or shift of custody due to which the court dismisses the bail. The matter is scheduled to come for hearing before the apex court tomorrow.
