Vice President urges DRDO scientists to intensify research on Covid-19

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu urges the Defence Research and Development Organization scientists to intensify research to combat any pandemic threat in future.

New Delhi: Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu urged the Defence Research and Development Organization scientists to intensify research to combat any pandemic threat in future. Naidu lauded efforts made by scientists and frontline workers from the Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS), a DRDO lab during interaction with them.

The pandemic has triggered unprecedented health crises and severely impacted lives and livelihoods across the world, said Naidu. In the wake of the emergence of new variants of SARS-CoV-2, it is important to be ever vigilant to effectively tackle any future threats. Naidu also lauded DIPAS and other DRDO labs for developing indigenous products to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr G Satheesh Reddy, DRDO Chairman briefed Naidu about products and equipment developed indigenously by DRDO labs for treatment and management of COVID-19. Headed by Dr G Satheesh Reddy, DRDO Chairman, around 25 scientists and technicians held discussions with Naidu at his residence. Dr Rajeev Varshney, Director of DIPAS was present during the interaction.

The Union Health Ministry informed that 42,909 new COVID-19 cases and 380 related fatalities in the last 24 hours in India. Out of the total cases, 29,836 cases were reported in Kerala. The total death toll marked 4,38,210 including the fresh fatalities. Out of the 380 fresh fatalities, 75 were reported from Kerala, 131 from Maharashtra, 67 from Odisha, as per reports.
