Lucknow: Religious outfit Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Monday lauded Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's decision of bringing a strict ordinance to curb 'love jihad'. VHP, which has been demanding strict laws to stop love-jihad, also welcomed Yogi's 'Mission Shakti' initiative aimed at providing security to women.

Yogi Adityanath in his Deoria rally had stated that he would deal with love jihad with a firm hand. Giving a stern warning, the minister said, "If the people do not stop playing with honours of daughters and sisters by concealing their identities, the Ram Naam Satya journey will start".

The demand for a strict ordinance comes in the backdrop of the murder of a 21-year-old student Nikita Tomar who was shot dead outside her college last week by a man who was allegedly pressuring her to marry him. VHP has also sought one crore compensation for the family of the victim.

After CM Yogi, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar also said that his govt is mulling to bring strict law against love jihad.

VHP spokesperson Vinod Bansal said, "Forceful conversion and love jihad has now become a curse in the civilised society. Girls and daughters become victims of this crime and they had to face a lot of atrocities. They are cheated and forced to convert their religion by men who lay a trap by hiding their real identities. The Central government must bring the law against 'love jihad'. We appreciate UP govt's decision and such laws must be introduced across the nation to save our daughters."

VHP condemns Mathura incident

The organisation also condemned the Mathura incident in which two people allegedly read namaz in Nand Baba Mandir.

"Getting inside the temple in a mysterious manner, reading namaz, recording video of the act and uploading it on social media..doesn't it reveal a particular mentality?", Bansal asked.

Raising questions on the incident, he said, "People who chant slogans of 'secularism' must answer if anyone has read Hanuman or Durga Chalisa in a mosque?"

"Anyone who wants to read namaz can read it but not inside the temple. There is a place designated for it," the VHP spokesperson said.

The Uttar Pradesh Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against four persons after two of them allegedly offered namaz at a temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura.
