New Delhi: After Madhya Pradesh cabinet approved the Dharma Swatantrya (Religious Freedom) Bill, members of the Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) have urged the Kejriwal-led AAP government to bring the same in the national capital. The request was made after the VHP District President Kapil Khanna chaired a meeting with his party members at his residence. The top officials of the outfit also sought time to meet Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant governor Anil Baijal.
VHP has raised concerns over the increasing cases of alleged forced conversions in Delhi under the pretext of marriages or hiding true identities. The RSS affiliate has claimed that the national capital is witnessing a rise in the 'growing religious conversions' and an increase in 'love jihad cases'.
Kapil Khanna said, "Delhi government should bring a strict law against forced conversions to provide protection to women in the state who become victims of the false trap. The accused must be sentenced to death within a month time. It is an organised crime and the accused even receive fundings from abroad."
Taking it to Twitter, VHP National spokesperson Vinod Bansal wrote, "Today VHP Delhi sent a letter to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to make a law to check growing religious conversations & love jihad cases in the NCT of Delhi".

The organisation had appealed to the Central government to bring in anti-jihad laws after a 21-year-old college student Nikita Tomar was shot dead in Haryana's Ballabgarh.
"The Central government must bring the law against 'love jihad'. Conversion cannot be allowed in any civilised society, love jihad cannot be allowed. It is not just the invasion of the population," VHP International Joint Secretary Surendra Jain had said.
Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Bill 2020, which provides for a prison term of up to 10 years and fine of Rs 1 lakh for conversion through marriage or by any other fraudulent means, got the state cabinet's approval on Saturday.
