Lucknow: Varun Gandhi, BJP MP from Pilibhit and son of senior leader Maneka Gandhi, is challenging the state leadership of the party. Even as the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections are just around the corner, he is constantly trying to come to limelight by making statements opposing party decisions during critical occasions. There is talk that Varun Gandhi is angry with his neglect within the BJP and he may take a big decision in the near future.
Even after the support price of sugarcane was increased, Varun Gandhi had made an anti-party statement. Now, after the incident in Lakhimpur Kheri, he is seen harmonising with the opposition. When the state government increased the support price of sugarcane by Rs 25 to Rs 350, Varun Gandhi had written a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath saying that the support price should be Rs 400. Significantly, the opposition is also demanding that the support price should be increased to Rs. 400. Similarly, regarding the violence in Lakhimpur, Varun Gandhi directly blamed Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni and his son and spoke on lines similar to the opposition.

Varun Gandhi has also shared the video in which a car is seen running over farmers. Given the horror of the video, Facebook had covered the video, but he did not delete the video from his Facebook page. Earlier, Varun Gandhi had also spoken in support of the farmers' agitation making the BJP uncomfortable. From time to time, there has been talk of Varun Gandhi joining the Congress. Sources say that he is close to Priyanka Gandhi. In such a situation, this big wicket of BJP may fall at some point.
BJP state spokesperson Hero Bajpai says that the area from which Varun Gandhi comes is dominated by farmers.
“Varun talks about farmers,” Bajpai said. “If the party feels that he is saying something anti-party, then the disciplinary committee can decide on it.”
