Dehradun (Uttarakhand): The Uttarakhand STF has apprehended 7 bookies and has busted an IPL bookie gang that has been operating from a well-known hotel in Mussoorie late at night on Sunday. Several electronic devices, mobile phones and a huge amount of cash have been seized from the spot. The raids by STF against online betting is still underway in the state in the wake of ongoing IPL matches in Dubai.
Around 23 mobile phones, calculators, a huge amount of cash and four registers of transactions worth lakhs have been recovered from the accused. The betting was being held by bookies during the Bengaluru-Mumbai match on Sunday night, the STF team said, adding that the persons held are natives of Muzaffarnagar, Haridwar and Roorkee.

The arrested persons have been identified as - Masroor Akhtar, Dilshad, Naved, Shahnawaz, Shahida, Salman, Shahnawaz and Aamir Azam. During the interrogation, the bookies revealed that they chose Mussoorie hotels in a bid to evade police action.
An investigation is underway and efforts are on to trace those persons associated with the online betting network.
