Chamoli (Uttarakhand): Amid torrential rains in Uttarakhand, a landslide near Tamak (Markhuda) village on Joshimath-Niti border road in Chamoli has disrupted traffic for the last three days. With basic needs and logistics not reaching villages in the area, the villagers are demanding a helicopter service from the government.
The Joshimath-Niti border road is blocked near Tamak (Markhuda) village, 37 km from Joshimath towards Niti. This zone has become prone to landslides causing frequent roadblocks. Though the BRO is trying to open the route, due to frequent landslides and boulders falling from the hill, its work has been hindered.

Meanwhile, due to the blockade, the villagers have demanded that the government start a helicopter service to meet their basic needs till the road is opened in the valley. Due to the blockade, vehicles delivering logistics to the army and those of locals are also stuck on the road.
Apart from the road being blocked, telecommunication services and electricity have also been disrupted in Tamak, Juma, Kaga, Garpak, Raving, Dronagiri, Jelam, Bhapkund, Kosha, Malari, Kailaspur, Mehrgaon, Kurgati, Farakya villages, Bampa, Gamshali and Niti villages of the valley leaving people upset. Electricity poles have been uprooted due to the landslides, which has resulted in power outages.
