Teenager dies after consuming poison in front of family in Mumbai

The 16-year-old victim killed herself as her brother did not let her play on mobile phone. The 6-member family shared one phone, say the police

Mumbai: Miffed with her brother over not letting her play on the mobile phone, a teenager killed herself by consuming rat poison, police said on Sunday. The incident took place in Mumbai's Kandivali East area on Saturday.

According to police sub-inspector Santosh Kharde, the deceased girl has three siblings - two sisters and a younger brother. Their father is an auto-rickshaw driver. On Saturday night, she and her brother picked up a fight over playing on the mobile phone. The entire family shared one phone, according to the police. PSI Kharde said the girl, who was 16 years old, had anger issues.

The girl, who got infuriated with this, bought rat poison from a nearby store late at night and consumed it in front of her brother.

Though her family members rushed her to Shatabdi Government Hospital, she did not respond to the treatment.
