UP: Kalyan Singh laid to rest with full state honours in Bulandshahr

Bulandshahr (Uttar Pradesh): Former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Kalyan Singh, who died on August 21, was cremated with full state honours at the Bansi Ghat in Bulandshahr's Narora town on the banks of the Ganga River on Monday afternoon.

Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti, Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani, and several other Cabinet ministers were also present at Basi Ghat and paid floral tributes to the deceased. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had remained with the mortal remains of the BJP leader since it was brought from Lucknow on Sunday.

Priests were heard chanting religious hymns while state police officers saluted the mortal remains of late Kalyan Singh. Several thousands of people had gathered to pay their last respects. A continuous sloganeering of 'Jai Shri Ram' was heard during the funeral.

Several UP ministers were also present on the occasion, apart from thousands of supporters and followers.

The final rites were done by the departed leader's son and MP Rajvir Singh, who was accompanied by his son Sandeep Singh, a minister in the state government.

Kalyan Singh who was ailing for some time passed away at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow, due to sepsis and multi-organ failure.

A two-time Chief Minister (June 1991 to December 1992 and September 1997 to November 1999), Singh also served as Governor of Rajasthan (2014-2019). Singh also held various organizational posts in the BJP, both at the state and the central level.
