Union Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot thanked BJP MP Gopal Shetty for distributing 33 motorized tricycles through MPLAD funds while inaugurating ADIP camp. Assistive aids and devices will be distributed to divyangjan following all the COVID-19 protocols.

New Delhi: Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot on Thursday inaugurated an Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids and Appliances (ADIP) camp in North Mumbai through online video streaming for free distribution of assistive aids and devices to Divyangjan.

Addressing on the occasion, Gehlot expressed his gratitude towards Member of Parliament of North Mumbai Gopal Shetty for providing 33 Motorized tricycles through his Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) fund. These motorized tricycles will be distributed among the identified Divyangjan of North Mumbai.

"Total 1,035 beneficiaries were identified in six locations of North Mumbai in January and February 2020. A total 1,740 aids and assistive devices valuing Rs.87.96 Lakh will be distributed in a phased manner in the next 3 days among the pre-identified beneficiaries. Camps will be organised at Dahisagar, Kandivali (West), Kandivali (East), Boriwali (East), Boriwali (West) and Poinsur Gymkhana in North Mumbai," said Gehlot.

He informed that in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic Ministry has approved a revised Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for distribution camps under the prevalent conditions adhering to social distancing and sanitization protocol.

In his address, Gopal Shetty requested Gehlot to arrange for the provisions of a scheme to provide a pension for visually impaired people across the country.

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in a statement said, "In the camp, aids and assistive devices of the different category were distributed among 150 Divyangjan which included 21 Motorized Tricycle. A total of 33 motorized tricycles are to be distributed in the camp of North Mumbai with the fund amounting Rs 39,6000 from MPLAD fund. Cost of a single motorized tricycle is Rs 37,000."

The eligible beneficiary gets the support of Rs 25,000 as subsidy under the ADIP Scheme of the government and the support of balance amount of Rs 12,000 per motorized tricycle is funded through MPLAD.
