This situation has arisen out of a dispute regarding the sale of the ship, MV Marine. The employees got entangled in this dispute between two companies and are stranded at the Cyprus port. The crew members of the ship have also not received their salaries for three months.

These people, trapped for almost a month, have not got any help from the Cyprus Ports Authority. In such a situation, only immediate intervention of the Indian Ministry of External Affairs can help. The crew members of the ship also contacted the Government of India but got no response. They are now under pressure from the company to go to Libya. But there is already a government advisory warning Indian citizens not to go to Libya.

According to information received from sources, The MV Marine ship is now owned by a new company of Libya. Earlier its name was SC Astrea and it was a Norwegian ship.
