1. UP govt releases new population policy for 2021-2030

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday released the Uttar Pradesh Population Policy 2021-2030 on the occasion of World Population Day at his residence. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that bringing the bill is necessary to control and stabilize the population to promote sustainable development with more equitable distribution.  

2. India evacuates diplomats, security personnel from Kandahar as Taliban captures news areas

India has pulled out around 50 diplomats and security personnel from its consulate in Kandahar in Afghanistan in view of the deteriorating security situation and the Taliban gaining control of new areas around the southern Afghan city, people familiar with the development said on Sunday.

3. Israel foils attempt to smuggle weapons from Lebanon

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the police have thwarted an attempt to smuggle weapons from Lebanon, the IDF said in a statement.  

4. Govt identifies items for customs exemptions review, seeks industry views

The government has identified a host of customs exemptions for review and has invited suggestions from trade and industry bodies on the same. Importers, exporters, domestic industry and trade associations are invited to give views on the subject for consideration by the government by August 10 on the 'MyGov.in' portal.

5. Chennithala urges secular parties to join hands to fight Centre's move on cooperatives

Slamming the Centre for creating a new Ministry of Cooperation, senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala on Sunday urged secular parties in the country to come together and launch a joint fight against the "move by the BJP and Sangh Parivar to take control" of the key sector.

Former union minister Thaawarchand Gehlot took oath as the 19th Governor of Karnataka succeeding Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala. Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka administered him the oath of office.

3. NIA raids multiple locations in J-K's Anantnag in terror funding case; 5 arrested

A day after eleven employees of the Jammu and Kashmir government were sacked for their alleged involvement in anti-national activities, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided various locations in Anantnag district on Sunday in connection with a terror funding case. The NIA team, headed by Dinesh Gupta along with SP district headquarters Anantnag and SHO Achabal, carried out multiple raids and arrested five people.

1. COVID-19: India logs 41,506 new cases, 895 fatalities

India reported 41,506 new cases in the last 24 hours, according to data released by the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry on Sunday. The COVID-19 death toll rose to 4,08,040 with 895 fresh fatalities. The country's active cases have further declined to 4,54,118.
