New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi at her residence at 10 Janpath in New Delhi on Wednesday. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was also present in the meeting, which lasted for almost an hour. This meeting can be seen significant as the Opposition forces are trying to come up with a united front ahead of the 2024 General Elections.
While briefing the reporters, Mamata said the meeting was quite a fruitful saying, "It was a very good meeting. I think the positive result must come out in the future." "We discussed the political situation in general. We also discussed Pegasus spyware snooping, Covid-19 situation, and the unity of the opposition", she added.
Asked if she will lead the opposition front in the 2024 elections, Mamata Banerjee said it is essential for everyone to come together in order to defeat BJP. "Alone, I am nothing - everyone will have to work together. I am not a leader, I am a cadre. I am a person from the street," she said.

The West Bengal CM also took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi while replying to a question over his allegations over Opposition parties of disrupting the Parliament proceedings during Monsoon Session, by saying, "If so, then why is he not discussing Pegasus matter in both the houses? If it wouldn't be discussed in the Parliament, then would it be discussed at a tea stall?"
On Tuesday, Mamata Banerjee also had a meeting with three senior leaders of the Congress party including Kamal Nath, Anand Sharma, and Abhishek Manu Singhvi. She also made a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During her Delhi tour, she has lined up meetings with several key opposition leaders.
